As a property owner you are entitled to submit your own building permit applications. However, we recommend that you let us take care of the permits for you. We’ll use our expertise in this area to ensure your paperwork is submitted in the correct manner to avoid unnecessary delays.
As a rule of thumb, the permit processing time for small jobs is approximately 2-4 weeks. Permitting for a large projects can take up to 90 days, and new homes up to 4 years.
For new homes, the permit processing time can be sped up by acquiring ‘points’. Points are awarded for various initiatives associated with the build, for example, by installing energy efficient heating systems or utilizing additional lots. We can provide advice on maximizing your ‘point allocation’ in collaboration with your architect.
